Who We Are
About Us
ProofNews is an independent fact-checking publication with a simple rule: don't share it until we check it. We investigate the claims racing around social media — viral health tips, tech scares, science myths, trending rumors — trace each one to its source, weigh it against the evidence, and publish a clear verdict.
What We Check
- Health — wellness myths, diet claims, and medical rumors, checked against real research.
- Technology — AI scares, gadget rumors, and digital-age urban legends.
- Science — space myths, science misconceptions, and bad pop science.
- Viral Claims — whatever is trending right now, put to the test.
How We Rate Claims
Every investigation ends with one of five verdicts:
- True — accurate as stated.
- Mostly True — accurate overall, with minor caveats.
- Misleading — contains truth but misleads.
- False — not supported by the evidence.
- Unproven — not enough evidence either way.
Our Editorial Standards
- Evidence first. We base verdicts on primary sources — peer-reviewed research, official data, and direct statements — wherever possible.
- Show our work. We explain where every key fact came from so you can check it yourself.
- Corrections. When we get something wrong, we correct it promptly and transparently. If you spot an error, please let us know.
- No false balance. We follow the weight of the evidence — we don't give equal airtime to fringe positions the data doesn't support.
